In these uncertain times many parents are now adjusting to life with their children at home, off school or nursery.

So here at moKee we thought we would give you some helpful tips on how to entertain young children at home.

I have a 4 year old and 1 year old. Both were at nursery but now at home and here are some fun activities to keep them stimulated and happy…

GET OUTDOORS (but at a safe distance from others)

There’s nothing like getting some fresh air and if you are well and healthy then make the most of your garden, if you have one. If not, go for a walk but of course adhering to Government policy to keep at least 2 metres away from people.

We are lucky to be in the countryside and have walks on our doorstep and we often don’t see a soul. If you can find a walk with a river and a bridge then you can play that fun game of Poohsticks!

This is a game first mentioned in The House at Pooh Corner, a Winnie-the-Pooh book by A. A. Milne. It is a simple game which may be played on any bridge over running water; each player drops a stick on the upstream side of a bridge and the one whose stick first appears on the downstream side is the winner. A great game which kids love!

FEED THE BIRDS!

At this time of year we should all be helping birds and feeding them and kids will love to do this. Simply by bringing bed or bird food to a park or in your own garden you could create your own bird feeders.

We made a really simple bird feeder by using two orange halves, scooping out the fruit and mixing up bird seed with lard and sticking it into the orange halves. You can also hang them from trees. Children love this as you can watch from afar as birds dig in and always top up the orange halves with more food! Giving the birds a helping hand and teaching your children about birds and our environment all in one go!

GET CRAFTY!

If the weather isn’t the best then stay in doors and get crafty. Messy play is a great thing to try and do with your children as it help their imagination! Save up some cardboard boxes, egg boxes and anything you have free and see what they will build! A den, a plane or a pirate ship?! Let them cut out with scissors (with you present!) and give them some glue and colouring pencils. Hours of fun!

RAINBOWS

We’ve seen lots of children here in the UK start to draw rainbows and then putting them in their front windows of their home to help cheer everyone up – take a read here.
